French Daily Study Support
French Daily Study teaches French vocabulary to English speakers: every noun with its article
and gender, every phrase the way it actually sounds, a word on your Lock Screen, and short
original example sentences with audio — all offline.
Common questions
- How do I add the Lock Screen widget? Touch and hold your Lock Screen, tap
Customize, tap the widget area and choose French Daily Study. Home Screen widgets: touch and hold the
Home Screen, tap Edit, Add Widget. Tapping a card opens exactly that word in the app.
- Why is gender reviewed separately from meaning? Knowing that
l’école means “school” does not tell you it is feminine — the
article l’ hides it. Each noun keeps its own gender track (un or une?), so a correct
meaning never hides a gender you have not learned.
- I cannot hear anything. Check the ringer switch and the volume, then check
that a French voice is installed: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content →
Voices → French. The app never reads French with an English voice; without a French voice
it stays silent and says so.
- What are the marks under the sentences? Sound notes. A small arc joins two
words that link when spoken (les‿amis), a bar shows where they do not link, an underline
marks letters that make one sound, and a struck-through letter is written but not pronounced.
Each mark is explained in words under the sentence. Turn them off in Settings → Help on
cards.
- What is included without paying? The first session, a permanent Starter Set of 15 words and
phrases with audio and reviews, one question in each practice module and the Basic widget.
Nothing new arrives by itself; the full path is an optional upgrade.
- How do I restore a purchase on a new phone? Settings → Restore
Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account. Learning progress is not synced by Apple;
export it from Settings → Your data on the old device and import it on the new one.
- Why did my cards not change on the Lock Screen? iOS decides when widgets
refresh. The app requests a rotation a few times a day (or hourly), but the system may show the
previous card longer, especially in Low Power Mode.
- Which French is this? The standard French of France. Informal spoken forms
are shown next to the standard ones and labelled as such; neither is treated as a mistake.
- What does “Strong” mean? A practice status inside this app: a
skill answered correctly on at least three different days with a review interval of a week or
more. It is not a language-level certification.
