FluencyTap Support
FluencyTap (listed as Running Record & ORF Calc) times an oral read, lets you tap words to
mark errors and self-corrections, and computes WCPM, accuracy, error ratio, and self-correction
ratio instantly — with both the ORF/curriculum-based and running-record scoring conventions
clearly labeled.
Common questions
- Which convention should I use? Use the convention your assessment system
prescribes. FluencyTap implements both and never blends them: ORF/WCPM ignores insertions and
counts self-corrections as correct; the running-record convention counts insertions as errors
and reports the self-correction ratio. The active convention is shown on screen and printed on
every report.
- Why is there no level band in ORF mode? Independent/instructional/
frustration bands belong to the running-record convention. ORF systems publish their own
grade-and-season benchmarks instead — enter your target in the benchmark field. An
optional accuracy band can be enabled for ORF mode; it is always labeled as custom.
- Where do I get passages and norms? FluencyTap deliberately bundles neither.
Use passages you have the right to use, and take benchmark numbers from your assessment
system’s published norms.
- Does live marking work in Spanish or French? Yes — the tokenizer
handles any space-delimited alphabetic script. Scripts without word delimiters (for example
Chinese, Japanese, Thai) are steered to the Quick calculator, which supports every score.
- Is my student data uploaded? Never. There is no account and the app makes
no network requests. See the Privacy
Policy.
- School purchase orders / volume licensing: version 1 is licensed per
individual teacher through the App Store; App Store in-app purchases are not available through
Apple School Manager volume purchasing. Email us and we will help you figure out options.
- Restore purchases: More → Restore Purchases after reinstalling or
switching devices.
